What are your nonverbal signs?
This week we have been watching the movie 21. I didn't really know what to expect and it was actually a pretty good movie. The main concept of the movie was nonverbal communication. I always knew nonverbal communication was a big part of communication and I realized that we all use it and in different ways. My friends and I use different signs and facial expressions from what the movie did. For example when someone walks by and is wearing something different we all look at each other and when we do that I think we all know that our faces mean " what! Why is that person wearing that." So Mrs. Walsh was right when she said that this chapter is fun.

No black
I was reading Thomas's blog about how different colors mean different things. which got me thinking why is black a color we wear if it just sends a bad vibe in the first place. Why don't we just wear happy colors like orange, yellow, green, blue. So people don't think that we are negative and sad all the time when we wear dark colors.

Is silence Key?
This chapter we were talking about Nonverbal communication. I think silence is great I can do things on my own and I don't have to be around people all the time. When I was younger I would have my friend come over and about 2 hours later I would get sick of her and not talk. Still to this day I rather do things on my own because then I don't have to worry about with the other person. So does it make me a bad person if I don't always need to be around people?
Can you ?
This chapter we talked about social clocks. I feel that I try to keep up with the people my age I try to wear the same style and other things to keep up with them. But how can you be your own person and keep up with everyone else?

Is it ?
Last week we started watching the movie You've got mail. At first I thought the movie was going to be boring and have people just email each other, but it turned out to be good it was interesting how the internet makes people different. Like Joe ,Kathleen thought that he was just mean because he opened a book store down the street for hers but he was actually a kind and caring person when he sent her messages. Is that because they didn't talk about personal stuff over the messages or was it because they were not able to see the other person?
Mirroring or Mocking?
I was reading Mrs. Walsh's blog about how she was trying to make the parent more comfortable by mirroring their actions. I thought it was interesting that mirror and mocking are kind of the same thing but not mirroring is adjusting your self to relate to the other person but mocking is repeating the other persons action the same way they do them.

Are you?
I was reading Maricella's post about the TED talk video we watched in class and I also thought it was interesting that it's actually easy to "spot" lies. I was thinking are you considered a liar if you know something and someone else doesn't but it does not get brought up in conversation ?
Hmmm.
This week we had a guest speaker and one of the things that she talked about that stuck out to me was 7% of a conversation is the actual words we use. I think that is so true when I think about when I talk to my brother he always gives me attitude when I ask him to do something for me. I always try to be polite about it and say please and thank you but maybe its the tone of my voice or my body language.

5 stages
This week we learned about the listening process and the five stages. 1 Receiving, 2 Understanding, 3 Remembering, 4 Evaluating and the last stage is 5 Responding. I think the one that I am the best at is number 3 Remembering when people tell me stories I tend to remember what it was about when they bring it up the next time I see them.

What way are you going to look at life ?
My favorite quote is from Elliot Ewritt " Photography is the art of observation. It has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them." In class this week we learned about Perception and the different ways you can the world. From what I understand is that you can look at life as everyday is a good day and be positive and happy of you can go through life with a negative outlook.

Enculturation and acculturation
This chapter we learned about enculturation and acculturation. Enculturation which is the process by which you learn the culture into which you're born. Acculturation is the process in which you learn the rules and norms of the culture different from your native culture. My enculturation would be: hard working and family orientated. My acculturation would be the grammar rules of speaking Spanish I know very little Spanish so if I were to try to learn it I would have to learn the different rules about it.
You're Welcome...
During the week I give my brothers friends a ride home or to school. I don't mind doing it as long as they say "Thanks Sam" but one of his friends never says it. It should not be that big of deal but for some reason it drives me nuts! I just want to say " you're welcome" but I don't. I know not everyone was raised to say please and thank you but If I do something for someone the least I want in return is a thank you. That's why being polite is a big deal these days. So next time someone does something for you say THANK YOU !

The Noise I miss
The four different types of noise are: physical, physiological, psychological and semantic. The one that affects my life the most is physiological noise because I have a hearing problem. It affects me because when my parents says something and I don't catch what they say right away they get mad when I say what.
